San Diego, CA ---- San Diego Mesa College is discussed in an article published today by The Pew Charitable Trusts. The article, entitled, “More Community Colleges Are Offering Bachelor’s Degrees — And Four-Year Universities Aren’t Happy About It”, discusses the merits – and controversy – of community colleges offering four-year degrees. San Diego Mesa College will award the first baccalaureate degrees in the College’s history in May 2018.

San Diego, CA. — Today, San Diego Mesa College announced that alumnus Antonio Martinez has been unanimously chosen to be their 2018 Distinguished Alumni, and will speak at the 2018 San Diego Mesa College Commencement Ceremony to be held at the USD Jenny Craig Pavilion on May 19th at 3:00pm.

San Diego, CA. — Tonight, San Diego Mesa College will honor the 2018 scholarship winners at the 25th Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony. 175 students will be awarded approximately $240,000 in scholarships – the most ever awarded in the history of the College. The Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Mesa College Foundation, will take place tonight at 5:00 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Mission Valley.

San Diego, CA ---- On Thursday, April 19, at 3:00 p.m., San Diego Mesa College will debut “The Stand: Farmer’s Market”, created via a new partnership with Feeding San Diego. The Stand: Farmers Market grand opening event will offer students and members of the Mesa College community access to free food, including fresh produce.

San Diego Mesa College Foundation was selected to receive a generous grant from the Science and Technology Grants Program from the San Diego Foundation on January 15, 2018. This funded the opportunity for Mesa College STEM students to participate in a field trip on Friday, March 2, 2018 entitled Tierra Excursion. The trip included a tour of Wild Willow Farm, a sustainable farm with educational resources, and a visit to the Tijuana River Estuary, an area of land in Imperial Beach where the Tijuana River meets the Pacific Ocean.

Since 2012, the San Diego History Center and Mesa College’s Fashion Program have partnered to create and host a unique annual event: Fashion Redux. This year’s theme is Fashion Redux: 90 Years of Fashion features designs ranging from the late 1920’s to present time. Throughout early Spring, Mesa Fashion students have worked diligently to prepare their individual garments for the show and upcoming Grand Reveal event on April 26, 2018.

On March 7, the Mesa College celebration of Deaf Day took place in the Sunrise Plaza. The event commemorated the 30th Anniversary of the 1988 “Deaf President Now” student protest at Gallaudet University, leading to the first Deaf President of that institution since it was established in 1864. During the event, Mesa students learned lessons of silence, and the privilege attached to those without hearing disabilities.
